Sometimes the stepping must be checked to tell them apart. On x86 there can be at most 16 steppings. Add a steppings bitmask to x86_cpu_id and a X86_MATCH_VENDOR_FAMILY_MODEL_STEPPING_FEATURE macro and support for matching against family/model/stepping. [ Upstream commit d2ed49cf6c13e379c5819aa5ac20e1f9674ebc89 ] When a PHY is probed, if the top bit is set, we end up requesting a module with the string "mdio:-10101110000000100101000101010001" - the top bit is printed to a signed -1 value. This leads to the module not being loaded. Fix the module format string and the macro generating the values for it to ensure that we only print unsigned types and the top bit is always 0/1. We correctly end up with "mdio:10101110000000100101000101010001". Boris Brezillon	ace0c3c406	i3c: Add core I3C infrastructure ... Add core infrastructure to support I3C in Linux and document it. This infrastructure adds basic I3C support. Advanced features will be added afterwards. There are a few design choices that are worth mentioning because they impact the way I3C device drivers can interact with their devices: - all functions used to send I3C/I2C frames must be called in non-atomic context. Mainly done this way to ease implementation, but this is not set in stone, and if anyone needs async support, new functions can be added later on. - the bus element is a separate object, but it's tightly coupled with the master object. We thus have a 1:1 relationship between i3c_bus and i3c_master_controller objects, and if 2 master controllers are connected to the same bus and both exposed to the same Linux instance they will appear as two distinct busses, and devices on this bus will be exposed twice. - I2C backward compatibility has been designed to be transparent to I2C drivers and the I2C subsystem. The I3C master just registers an I2C adapter which creates a new I2C bus. I'd say that, from a representation PoV it's not ideal because what should appear as a single I3C bus exposing I3C and I2C devices here appears as 2 different buses connected to each other through the parenting (the I3C master is the parent of the I2C and I3C busses). On the other hand, I don't see a better solution if we want something that is not invasive. Missing features: - I3C HDR modes are not supported - no support for multi-master and the associated concepts (mastership handover, support for secondary masters, ...) - I2C devices can only be described using DT because this is the only use case I have. However, the framework can easily be extended with ACPI and board info support - I3C slave framework. This has been completely omitted, but shouldn't have a huge impact on the I3C framework because I3C slaves don't see the whole bus, it's only about handling master requests and generating IBIs. SLIMbus is a 2-wire implementation, which is used to communicate with peripheral components like audio-codec. SLIMbus uses Time-Division-Multiplexing to accommodate multiple data channels, and control channel. Control channel has messages to do device-enumeration, messages to send/receive control-data to/from SLIMbus devices, messages for port/channel management, and messages to do bandwidth allocation. The framework supports multiple instances of the bus (1 controller per bus), and multiple slave devices per controller. This patch adds support to basic silmbus core which includes support to SLIMbus type, slimbus device registeration and some basic data structures. Greg Kroah-Hartman	b24413180f	License cleanup: add SPDX GPL-2.0 license identifier to files with no license ... Many source files in the tree are missing licensing information, which makes it harder for compliance tools to determine the correct license. By default all files without license information are under the default license of the kernel, which is GPL version 2. Update the files which contain no license information with the 'GPL-2.0' SPDX license identifier. The SPDX identifier is a legally binding shorthand, which can be used instead of the full boiler plate text. This patch is based on work done by Thomas Gleixner and Kate Stewart and Philippe Ombredanne. How this work was done: Patches were generated and checked against linux-4.14-rc6 for a subset of the use cases: - file had no licensing information it it. - file was a */uapi/* one with no licensing information in it, - file was a */uapi/* one with existing licensing information, Further patches will be generated in subsequent months to fix up cases where non-standard license headers were used, and references to license had to be inferred by heuristics based on keywords. The analysis to determine which SPDX License Identifier to be applied to a file was done in a spreadsheet of side by side results from of the output of two independent scanners (ScanCode & Windriver) producing SPDX tag:value files created by Philippe Ombredanne. Philippe prepared the base worksheet, and did an initial spot review of a few 1000 files. The 4.13 kernel was the starting point of the analysis with 60,537 files assessed. Kate Stewart did a file by file comparison of the scanner results in the spreadsheet to determine which SPDX license identifier(s) to be applied to the file. She confirmed any determination that was not immediately clear with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Criteria used to select files for SPDX license identifier tagging was: - Files considered eligible had to be source code files. - Make and config files were included as candidates if they contained >5 lines of source - File already had some variant of a license header in it (even if <5 lines). All documentation files were explicitly excluded. The following heuristics were used to determine which SPDX license identifiers to apply. - when both scanners couldn't find any license traces, file was considered to have no license information in it, and the top level COPYING file license applied. For non */uapi/* files that summary was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 11139 and resulted in the first patch in this series. If that file was a */uapi/* path one, it was "GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note" otherwise it was "GPL-2.0". Results of that was: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------- GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 930 and resulted in the second patch in this series. - if a file had some form of licensing information in it, and was one of the */uapi/* ones, it was denoted with the Linux-syscall-note if any GPL family license was found in the file or had no licensing in it (per prior point). Results summary: SPDX license identifier # files ---------------------------------------------------|------ GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note 270 GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 169 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-2-Clause) 21 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 17 LGPL-2.1+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 15 GPL-1.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 14 ((GPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR BSD-3-Clause) 5 LGPL-2.0+ WITH Linux-syscall-note 4 LGPL-2.1 WITH Linux-syscall-note 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) OR MIT) 3 ((GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note) AND MIT) 1 and that resulted in the third patch in this series. - when the two scanners agreed on the detected license(s), that became the concluded license(s). - when there was disagreement between the two scanners (one detected a license but the other didn't, or they both detected different licenses) a manual inspection of the file occurred. - In most cases a manual inspection of the information in the file resulted in a clear resolution of the license that should apply (and which scanner probably needed to revisit its heuristics). - When it was not immediately clear, the license identifier was confirmed with lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. - If there was any question as to the appropriate license identifier, the file was flagged for further research and to be revisited later in time. In total, over 70 hours of logged manual review was done on the spreadsheet to determine the SPDX license identifiers to apply to the source files by Kate, Philippe, Thomas and, in some cases, confirmation by lawyers working with the Linux Foundation. Kate also obtained a third independent scan of the 4.13 code base from FOSSology, and compared selected files where the other two scanners disagreed against that SPDX file, to see if there was new insights. The Windriver scanner is based on an older version of FOSSology in part, so they are related. Thomas did random spot checks in about 500 files from the spreadsheets for the uapi headers and agreed with SPDX license identifier in the files he inspected. For the non-uapi files Thomas did random spot checks in about 15000 files. In initial set of patches against 4.14-rc6, 3 files were found to have copy/paste license identifier errors, and have been fixed to reflect the correct identifier. Additionally Philippe spent 10 hours this week doing a detailed manual inspection and review of the 12,461 patched files from the initial patch version early this week with: - a full scancode scan run, collecting the matched texts, detected license ids and scores - reviewing anything where there was a license detected (about 500+ files) to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct - reviewing anything where there was no detection but the patch license was not GPL-2.0 WITH Linux-syscall-note to ensure that the applied SPDX license was correct This produced a worksheet with 20 files needing minor correction. This worksheet was then exported into 3 different .csv files for the different types of files to be modified. These .csv files were then reviewed by Greg. Thomas wrote a script to parse the csv files and add the proper SPDX tag to the file, in the format that the file expected. This script was further refined by Greg based on the output to detect more types of files automatically and to distinguish between header and source .c files (which need different comment types.) Finally Greg ran the script using the .csv files to generate the patches. Daniel's bug fix for off-by-ones in the new BPF branch instructions, along with the added allowances for "data_end > ptr + x" forms collided with the metadata additions. Along with those three changes came veritifer test cases, which in their final form I tried to group together properly. If I had just trimmed GIT's conflict tags as-is, this would have split up the meta tests unnecessarily. In the socketmap code, a set of preemption disabling changes overlapped with the rename of bpf_compute_data_end() to bpf_compute_data_pointers(). Changes were made to the mv88e6060.c driver set addr method which got removed in net-next. Mika Westerberg	d1ff70241a	thunderbolt: Add support for XDomain discovery protocol ... When two hosts are connected over a Thunderbolt cable, there is a protocol they can use to communicate capabilities supported by the host. The discovery protocol uses automatically configured control channel (ring 0) and is build on top of request/response transactions using special XDomain primitives provided by the Thunderbolt base protocol. The capabilities consists of a root directory block of basic properties used for identification of the host, and then there can be zero or more directories each describing a Thunderbolt service and its capabilities. Once both sides have discovered what is supported the two hosts can setup high-speed DMA paths and transfer data to the other side using whatever protocol was agreed based on the properties. The software protocol used to communicate which DMA paths to enable is service specific. This patch adds support for the XDomain discovery protocol to the Thunderbolt bus. We model each remote host connection as a Linux XDomain device. For each Thunderbolt service found supported on the XDomain device, we create Linux Thunderbolt service device which Thunderbolt service drivers can then bind to based on the protocol identification information retrieved from the property directory describing the service. This code is based on the work done by Amir Levy and Michael Jamet. Device drivers typically use ACPI _HIDs/_CIDs listed in struct device_driver acpi_match_table to match devices. However, for generic drivers, we do not want to list _HID for all supported devices. Also, certain classes of devices do not have _CID (e.g. SATA, USB). Instead, we can leverage ACPI _CLS, which specifies PCI-defined class code (i.e. base-class, subclass and programming interface). This patch adds support for matching ACPI devices using the _CLS method. To support loadable module, current design uses _HID or _CID to match device's modalias. With the new way of matching with _CLS this would requires modification to the current ACPI modalias key to include _CLS. Heikki Krogerus	289fcff4bc	usb: add bus type for USB ULPI ... UTMI+ Low Pin Interface (ULPI) is a commonly used PHY interface for USB 2.0. The ULPI specification describes a standard set of registers which the vendors can extend for their specific needs. ULPI PHYs provide often functions such as charger detection and ADP sensing and probing. There are two major issues that the bus type is meant to tackle: Firstly, ULPI registers are accessed from the controller. The bus provides convenient method for the controller drivers to share that access with the actual PHY drivers. Secondly, there are already platforms that assume ULPI PHYs are runtime detected, such as many Intel Baytrail based platforms. They do not provide any kind of hardware description for the ULPI PHYs like separate ACPI device object that could be used to enumerate a device from.
