block: Add a helper to validate the block size
commit 570b1cac477643cbf01a45fa5d018430a1fddbce upstream. There are some duplicated codes to validate the block size in block drivers. This limitation actually comes from block layer, so this patch tries to add a new block layer helper for that. block: Move SECTOR_SIZE and SECTOR_SHIFT definitions into <linux/blkdev.h>
commit 233bde21aa43516baa013ef7ac33f3427056db3e upstream. It happens often while I'm preparing a patch for a block driver that I'm wondering: is a definition of SECTOR_SIZE and/or SECTOR_SHIFT available for this driver? Do I have to introduce definitions of these constants before I can use these constants? To avoid this confusion, move the existing definitions of SECTOR_SIZE and SECTOR_SHIFT into the <linux/blkdev.h> header file such that these become available for all block drivers. Make the SECTOR_SIZE definition in the uapi msdos_fs.h header file conditional to avoid that including that header file after <linux/blkdev.h> causes the compiler to complain about a SECTOR_SIZE redefinition. Note: the SECTOR_SIZE / SECTOR_SHIFT / SECTOR_BITS definitions have not been removed from uapi header files nor from NAND drivers in which these constants are used for another purpose than converting block layer offsets and sizes into a number of sectors. blktrace: Protect q->blk_trace with RCU
commit c780e86dd48ef6467a1146cf7d0fe1e05a635039 upstream. KASAN is reporting that __blk_add_trace() has a use-after-free issue when accessing q->blk_trace. Indeed the switching of block tracing (and thus eventual freeing of q->blk_trace) is completely unsynchronized with the currently running tracing and thus it can happen that the blk_trace structure is being freed just while __blk_add_trace() works on it. Protect accesses to q->blk_trace by RCU during tracing and make sure we wait for the end of RCU grace period when shutting down tracing. Luckily that is rare enough event that we can afford that. Note that postponing the freeing of blk_trace to an RCU callback should better be avoided as it could have unexpected user visible side-effects as debugfs files would be still existing for a short while block tracing has been shut down. The lockdep code had reported the following unsafe locking scenario:

The deadlock may happen when one task (CPU1) is trying to delete a
partition in a block device and another task (CPU0) is accessing
tracing sysfs file (e.g. /sys/block/dm-1/trace/act_mask) in that
partition.
The s_active isn't an actual lock. It is a reference count (kn->count)
on the sysfs (kernfs) file. Removal of a sysfs file, however, require
a wait until all the references are gone. The reference count is
treated like a rwsem using lockdep instrumentation code.
The fact that a thread is in the sysfs callback method or in the
ioctl call means there is a reference to the opended sysfs or device
file. That should prevent the underlying block structure from being
removed.
Instead of using bd_mutex in the block_device structure, a new
blk_trace_mutex is now added to the request_queue structure to protect
access to the blk_trace structure.

block: fix an integer overflow in logical block size
commit ad6bf88a6c19a39fb3b0045d78ea880325dfcf15 upstream. Logical block size has type unsigned short. That means that it can be at most 32768. However, there are architectures that can run with 64k pages (for example arm64) and on these architectures, it may be possible to create block devices with 64k block size. For exmaple (run this on an architecture with 64k pages): Mount will fail with this error because it tries to read the superblock using 2-sector access: device-mapper: writecache: I/O is not aligned, sector 2, size 1024, block size 65536 EXT4-fs (dm-0): unable to read superblock This patch changes the logical block size from unsigned short to unsigned int to avoid the overflow. block: Fix transfer when chunk sectors exceeds max
commit 15bfd21fbc5d35834b9ea383dc458a1f0c9e3434 upstream. A device may have boundary restrictions where the number of sectors between boundaries exceeds its max transfer size. In this case, we need to cap the max size to the smaller of the two limits. Enable hardware based FBE on f2fs and adapt ext4 fs
Hardware File Based Encryption (FBE) uses crypto engine to encrypt the user data with unique key for each file. File name and data both are encrypted with this feature. 1. security/pfk: changes to support per file encryption for f2fs using hardware crypto engine. 2. fs/ext4: adapted crypto APIs for generic crypto layer. 3. fs/f2fs: support hardware crypto engine based per file encryption. 4. fs/crypto: export APIs to support hardware crypto engine based per file encryption. block: Dynamically allocate and refcount backing_dev_info
Instead of storing backing_dev_info inside struct request_queue, allocate it dynamically, reference count it, and free it when the last reference is dropped. Currently only request_queue holds the reference but in the following patch we add other users referencing backing_dev_info. blkdev: Refactoring block io latency histogram codes
The current io_latency_state structure includes entries for read and write requests. There are special types of write commands such as sync and discard (trim) commands, and the current implementation is not general enough if we want to separate latency histogram for such special commands. mm: swap: don't delay swap free for fast swap devices
There are couple of issues with swapcache usage when ZRAM is used as swap device. 1) Kernel does a swap readahead which can be around 6 to 8 pages depending on total ram, which is not required for zram since accesses are fast. 2) Kernel delays the freeing up of swapcache expecting a later hit, which again is useless in the case of zram. 3) This is not related to swapcache, but zram usage itself. As mentioned in (2) kernel delays freeing of swapcache, but along with that it delays zram compressed page free also. i.e. there can be 2 copies, though one is compressed. This patch addresses these issues using two new flags QUEUE_FLAG_FAST and SWP_FAST, to indicate that accesses to the device will be fast and cheap, and instructs the swap layer to free up swap space agressively, and not to do read ahead. ANDROID: MMC/UFS IO Latency Histograms.
This patch adds a new sysfs node (latency_hist) and reports IO (svc time) latency histograms. Disabled by default, can be enabled by echoing 0 into latency_hist, stats can be cleared by writing 2 into latency_hist. This commit fixes the 32 bit build breakage in the previous commit. Tested on both 32 bit and 64 bit arm devices. (Merged from android4.4-common). blk-mq: introduce blk_mq_delay_kick_requeue_list()
blk_mq_delay_kick_requeue_list() provides the ability to kick the q->requeue_list after a specified time. To do this the request_queue's 'requeue_work' member was changed to a delayed_work. blk_mq_delay_kick_requeue_list() allows DM to defer processing requeued requests while it doesn't make sense to immediately requeue them (e.g. when all paths in a DM multipath have failed). Pull libnvdimm updates from Dan Williams:
- Replace pcommit with ADR / directed-flushing.
The pcommit instruction, which has not shipped on any product, is
deprecated. Instead, the requirement is that platforms implement
either ADR, or provide one or more flush addresses per nvdimm.
ADR (Asynchronous DRAM Refresh) flushes data in posted write buffers
to the memory controller on a power-fail event.
Flush addresses are defined in ACPI 6.x as an NVDIMM Firmware
Interface Table (NFIT) sub-structure: "Flush Hint Address Structure".
A flush hint is an mmio address that when written and fenced assures
that all previous posted writes targeting a given dimm have been
flushed to media.
- On-demand ARS (address range scrub).
Linux uses the results of the ACPI ARS commands to track bad blocks
in pmem devices. When latent errors are detected we re-scrub the
media to refresh the bad block list, userspace can also request a
re-scrub at any time.
- Support for the Microsoft DSM (device specific method) command
format.
- Support for EDK2/OVMF virtual disk device memory ranges.
- Various fixes and cleanups across the subsystem.

block: add QUEUE_FLAG_DAX for devices to advertise their DAX support
Currently, presence of direct_access() in block_device_operations indicates support of DAX on its block device. Because block_device_operations is instantiated with 'const', this DAX capablity may not be enabled conditinally. In preparation for supporting DAX to device-mapper devices, add QUEUE_FLAG_DAX to request_queue flags to advertise their DAX support. This will allow to set the DAX capability based on how mapped device is composed. scsi/osd: open code blk_make_request
I wish the OSD code could simply use blk_rq_map_* helpers like everyone else, but the complex nature of deciding if we have DATA IN and/or DATA OUT buffers might make this impossible (at least for a mere human like me). But using blk_rq_append_bio at least allows sharing the setup code between request with or without dat a buffers, and given that this is the last user of blk_make_request it allows getting rid of that somewhat awkward interface. block: introduce BLKDEV_DISCARD_ZERO to fix zeroout
Currently blkdev_issue_zeroout cascades down from discards (if the driver guarantees that discards zero data), to WRITE SAME and then to a loop writing zeroes. Unfortunately we ignore run-time EOPNOTSUPP errors in the block layer blkdev_issue_discard helper to work around DM volumes that may have mixed discard support underneath. This patch intoroduces a new BLKDEV_DISCARD_ZERO flag to blkdev_issue_discard that indicates we are called for zeroing operation. block: Convert fifo_time from ulong to u64
Currently rq->fifo_time is unsigned long but CFQ stores nanosecond
timestamp in it which would overflow on 32-bit archs. Convert it to u64
to avoid the overflow. Since the rq->fifo_time is unioned with struct
call_single_data(), this does not change the size of struct request in
any way.
We have to slightly fixup block/deadline-iosched.c so that comparison
happens in the right types.
