9d86ad7186 cgroup: Protect css->cgroup write under css_set_lock
[ Upstream commit 57b56d16800e8961278ecff0dc755d46c4575092 ]

The writing of css->cgroup associated with the cgroup root in
rebind_subsystems() is currently protected only by cgroup_mutex.
However, the reading of css->cgroup in both proc_cpuset_show() and
proc_cgroup_show() is protected just by css_set_lock. That makes the
readers susceptible to racing problems like data tearing or caching.
It is also a problem that can be reported by KCSAN.

This can be fixed by using READ_ONCE() and WRITE_ONCE() to access
css->cgroup. Alternatively, the writing of css->cgroup can be moved
under css_set_lock as well which is done by this patch.

4284ad6ee1 cgroup/cpuset: Prevent UAF in proc_cpuset_show()
commit 1be59c97c83ccd67a519d8a49486b3a8a73ca28a upstream.

An UAF can happen when /proc/cpuset is read as reported in [1].

This can be reproduced by the following methods:
1.add an mdelay(1000) before acquiring the cgroup_lock In the
 cgroup_path_ns function.
2.$cat /proc/<pid>/cpuset   repeatly.
3.$mount -t cgroup -o cpuset cpuset /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset/
$umount /sys/fs/cgroup/cpuset/   repeatly.

The race that cause this bug can be shown as below:

(umount)		|	(cat /proc/<pid>/cpuset)
css_release		|	proc_cpuset_show
css_release_work_fn	|	css = task_get_css(tsk, cpuset_cgrp_id);
css_free_rwork_fn	|	cgroup_path_ns(css->cgroup, ...);
cgroup_destroy_root	|	mutex_lock(&cgroup_mutex);
rebind_subsystems	|
cgroup_free_root 	|
			|	// cgrp was freed, UAF
			|	cgroup_path_ns_locked(cgrp,..);

When the cpuset is initialized, the root node top_cpuset.css.cgrp
will point to &cgrp_dfl_root.cgrp. In cgroup v1, the mount operation will
allocate cgroup_root, and top_cpuset.css.cgrp will point to the allocated
&cgroup_root.cgrp. When the umount operation is executed,
top_cpuset.css.cgrp will be rebound to &cgrp_dfl_root.cgrp.

The problem is that when rebinding to cgrp_dfl_root, there are cases
where the cgroup_root allocated by setting up the root for cgroup v1
is cached. This could lead to a Use-After-Free (UAF) if it is
subsequently freed. The descendant cgroups of cgroup v1 can only be
freed after the css is released. However, the css of the root will never
be released, yet the cgroup_root should be freed when it is unmounted.
This means that obtaining a reference to the css of the root does
not guarantee that css.cgrp->root will not be freed.

Fix this problem by using rcu_read_lock in proc_cpuset_show().
As cgroup_root is kfree_rcu after commit d23b5c577715
("cgroup: Make operations on the cgroup root_list RCU safe"),
css->cgroup won't be freed during the critical section.
To call cgroup_path_ns_locked, css_set_lock is needed, so it is safe to
replace task_get_css with task_css.

cd212b4b36 sched/fair: Allow disabling sched_balance_newidle with sched_relax_domain_level
[ Upstream commit a1fd0b9d751f840df23ef0e75b691fc00cfd4743 ]

Change relax_domain_level checks so that it would be possible
to include or exclude all domains from newidle balancing.

This matches the behavior described in the documentation:

  -1 no request. use system default or follow request of others.
   0   no search.
   1 search siblings (hyperthreads in a core).

"2" enables levels 0 and 1, level_max excludes the last (level_max)
level, and level_max+1 includes all levels.

96f0bf8aba cgroup: Remove duplicates in cgroup v1 tasks file
commit 1ca0b605150501b7dc59f3016271da4eb3e96fce upstream.

One PID may appear multiple times in a preloaded pidlist.
(Possibly due to PID recycling but we have reports of the same
task_struct appearing with different PIDs, thus possibly involving
transfer of PID via de_thread().)

Because v1 seq_file iterator uses PIDs as position, it leads to
a message:
> seq_file: buggy .next function kernfs_seq_next did not update position index

Conservative and quick fix consists of removing duplicates from `tasks`
file (as opposed to removing pidlists altogether). It doesn't affect
correctness (it's sufficient to show a PID once), performance impact
would be hidden by unconditional sorting of the pidlist already in place
(asymptotically).

The race that cause this bug can be shown as below:

(hotplug cpu)                | (umount cpuset)
mutex_lock(&cpuset_mutex)    | mutex_lock(&cgroup_mutex)
cpuset_hotplug_workfn        |

   while(css_task_iter_next) |                  &dcgrp->e_csets[ss->id]);
   css_task_iter_end         |   spin_unlock_irq(&css_set_lock)
mutex_unlock(&cpuset_mutex)  | mutex_unlock(&cgroup_mutex)

Inside css_task_iter_start/next/end, css_set_lock is hold and then
released, so when iterating task(left side), the css_set may be moved to
another list(right side), then it->cset_head points to the old list head
and it->cset_pos->next points to the head node of new list, which can't
be used as struct css_set.

To fix this issue, switch from all css_sets to only scgrp's css_sets to
patch in-flight iterators to preserve correct iteration, and then
update it->cset_head as well.

37647d951a cgroup/cpuset: Wake up cpuset_attach_wq tasks in cpuset_cancel_attach()
commit ba9182a89626d5f83c2ee4594f55cb9c1e60f0e2 upstream.

After a successful cpuset_can_attach() call which increments the
attach_in_progress flag, either cpuset_cancel_attach() or cpuset_attach()
will be called later. In cpuset_attach(), tasks in cpuset_attach_wq,
if present, will be woken up at the end. That is not the case in
cpuset_cancel_attach(). So missed wakeup is possible if the attach
operation is somehow cancelled. Fix that by doing the wakeup in
cpuset_cancel_attach() as well.

b77600e26f memcg: fix possible use-after-free in memcg_write_event_control()
commit 4a7ba45b1a435e7097ca0f79a847d0949d0eb088 upstream.

memcg_write_event_control() accesses the dentry->d_name of the specified
control fd to route the write call. As a cgroup interface file can't be
renamed, it's safe to access d_name as long as the specified file is a
regular cgroup file. Also, as these cgroup interface files can't be
removed before the directory, it's safe to access the parent too.

Prior to 347c4a8747 ("memcg: remove cgroup_event->cft"), there was a
call to __file_cft() which verified that the specified file is a regular
cgroupfs file before further accesses. The cftype pointer returned from
__file_cft() was no longer necessary and the commit inadvertently dropped
the file type check with it allowing any file to slip through. With the
invarients broken, the d_name and parent accesses can now race against
renames and removals of arbitrary files and cause use-after-free's.

Fix the bug by resurrecting the file type check in __file_cft(). Now that
cgroupfs is implemented through kernfs, checking the file operations needs
to go through a layer of indirection. Instead, let's check the superblock
and dentry type.

05f7658210 cgroup: Use separate src/dst nodes when preloading css_sets for migration
commit 07fd5b6cdf3cc30bfde8fe0f644771688be04447 upstream.

Each cset (css_set) is pinned by its tasks. When we're moving tasks around
across csets for a migration, we need to hold the source and destination
csets to ensure that they don't go away while we're moving tasks about. This
is done by linking cset->mg_preload_node on either the
mgctx->preloaded_src_csets or mgctx->preloaded_dst_csets list. Using the
same cset->mg_preload_node for both the src and dst lists was deemed okay as
a cset can't be both the source and destination at the same time.

Unfortunately, this overloading becomes problematic when multiple tasks are
involved in a migration and some of them are identity noop migrations while
others are actually moving across cgroups. For example, this can happen with
the following sequence on cgroup1:

 #1> mkdir -p /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/b
 #2> echo $$ > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/cgroup.procs
 #3> RUN_A_COMMAND_WHICH_CREATES_MULTIPLE_THREADS &
 #4> PID=$!
 #5> echo $PID > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/b/tasks
 #6> echo $PID > /sys/fs/cgroup/misc/a/cgroup.procs

the process including the group leader back into a. In this final migration,
non-leader threads would be doing identity migration while the group leader
is doing an actual one.

After #3, let's say the whole process was in cset A, and that after #4, the
leader moves to cset B. Then, during #6, the following happens:

 1. cgroup_migrate_add_src() is called on B for the leader.

 2. cgroup_migrate_add_src() is called on A for the other threads.

 3. cgroup_migrate_prepare_dst() is called. It scans the src list.

 4. It notices that B wants to migrate to A, so it tries to A to the dst
    list but realizes that its ->mg_preload_node is already busy.

 5. and then it notices A wants to migrate to A as it's an identity
    migration, it culls it by list_del_init()'ing its ->mg_preload_node and
    putting references accordingly.

 6. The rest of migration takes place with B on the src list but nothing on
    the dst list.

This means that A isn't held while migration is in progress. If all tasks
leave A before the migration finishes and the incoming task pins it, the
cset will be destroyed leading to use-after-free.

This is caused by overloading cset->mg_preload_node for both src and dst
preload lists. We wanted to exclude the cset from the src list but ended up
inadvertently excluding it from the dst list too.

This patch fixes the issue by separating out cset->mg_preload_node into
->mg_src_preload_node and ->mg_dst_preload_node, so that the src and dst
preloadings don't interfere with each other.

63da7267cb ANDROID: cgroup: Fix for a partially backported patch
The backports of 0d2b5955b36250a9428c832664f2079cbf723bec upstream
commit to 4.14 and 4.19 stable kernels drop changes to
cgroup_pressure_*() functions which breaks PSI cgroup file handlers
in Android Common Kernels.
The partial backport changes cgroup_file_open to allocate struct
cgroup_file_ctx and use kernfs_open_file.priv to point to it while
skipping the accompanying changes in cgroup_pressure_*(). This
leads to cgroup_pressure_*() functions treating kernfs_open_file.priv
as a pointer to struct psi_trigger instead of struct cgroup_file_ctx.
This partial backport works fine in upstream stable kernels because
they are missing PSI feature there, however in Android, PSI is
backported in 4.14 and 4.19 kernels and therefore the missing pieces
result in PSI feature being broken.
Fix this by adding the dropped pieces from the original patch.

37ba146831 FROMGIT: cgroup: Use separate src/dst nodes when preloading css_sets for migration

21e1e64073 BACKPORT: psi: Fix uaf issue when psi trigger is destroyed while being polled
commit a06247c6804f1a7c86a2e5398a4c1f1db1471848 upstream.

With write operation on psi files replacing old trigger with a new one,
the lifetime of its waitqueue is totally arbitrary. Overwriting an
existing trigger causes its waitqueue to be freed and pending poll()
will stumble on trigger->event_wait which was destroyed.
Fix this by disallowing to redefine an existing psi trigger. If a write
operation is used on a file descriptor with an already existing psi
trigger, the operation will fail with EBUSY error.
Also bypass a check for psi_disabled in the psi_trigger_destroy as the
flag can be flipped after the trigger is created, leading to a memory
leak.

7a34036ee5 cgroup/cpuset: Remove cpus_allowed/mems_allowed setup in cpuset_init_smp()
commit 2685027fca387b602ae565bff17895188b803988 upstream.

There are 3 places where the cpu and node masks of the top cpuset can
be initialized in the order they are executed:
 1) start_kernel -> cpuset_init()
 2) start_kernel -> cgroup_init() -> cpuset_bind()
 3) kernel_init_freeable() -> do_basic_setup() -> cpuset_init_smp()

The first cpuset_init() call just sets all the bits in the masks.
The second cpuset_bind() call sets cpus_allowed and mems_allowed to the
default v2 values. The third cpuset_init_smp() call sets them back to
v1 values.

For systems with cgroup v2 setup, cpuset_bind() is called once. As a
result, cpu and memory node hot add may fail to update the cpu and node
masks of the top cpuset to include the newly added cpu or node in a
cgroup v2 environment.

For systems with cgroup v1 setup, cpuset_bind() is called again by
rebind_subsystem() when the v1 cpuset filesystem is mounted as shown
in the dmesg log below with an instrumented kernel.

  [    2.609781] cpuset_bind() called - v2 = 1
  [    3.079473] cpuset_init_smp() called
  [    7.103710] cpuset_bind() called - v2 = 0

smp_init() is called after the first two init functions. So we don't
have a complete list of active cpus and memory nodes until later in
cpuset_init_smp() which is the right time to set up effective_cpus
and effective_mems.

To fix this cgroup v2 mask setup problem, the potentially incorrect
cpus_allowed & mems_allowed setting in cpuset_init_smp() are removed.
For cgroup v2 systems, the initial cpuset_bind() call will set the masks
correctly. For cgroup v1 systems, the second call to cpuset_bind()
will do the right setup.

2337c8257c cgroup: Use open-time cgroup namespace for process migration perm checks
commit e57457641613fef0d147ede8bd6a3047df588b95 upstream.

cgroup process migration permission checks are performed at write time as
whether a given operation is allowed or not is dependent on the content of
the write - the PID. This currently uses current's cgroup namespace which is
a potential security weakness as it may allow scenarios where a less
privileged process tricks a more privileged one into writing into a fd that
it created.

This patch makes cgroup remember the cgroup namespace at the time of open
and uses it for migration permission checks instad of current's. Note that
this only applies to cgroup2 as cgroup1 doesn't have namespace support.

This also fixes a use-after-free bug on cgroupns reported in

 https://lore.kernel.org/r/00000000000048c15c05d0083397@google.com

Note that backporting this fix also requires the preceding patch.

f1ce7855af cgroup: Allocate cgroup_file_ctx for kernfs_open_file->priv
commit 0d2b5955b36250a9428c832664f2079cbf723bec upstream.

of->priv is currently used by each interface file implementation to store
private information. This patch collects the current two private data usages
into struct cgroup_file_ctx which is allocated and freed by the common path.
This allows generic private data which applies to multiple files, which will
be used to in the following patch.

Note that cgroup_procs iterator is now embedded as procs.iter in the new
cgroup_file_ctx so that it doesn't need to be allocated and freed
separately.

v2: union dropped from cgroup_file_ctx and the procs iterator is embedded in
    cgroup_file_ctx as suggested by Linus.

v3: Michal pointed out that cgroup1's procs pidlist uses of->priv too.
    Converted. Didn't change to embedded allocation as cgroup1 pidlists get
    stored for caching.

a70bcf9ed0 cgroup: Use open-time credentials for process migraton perm checks
commit 1756d7994ad85c2479af6ae5a9750b92324685af upstream.

cgroup process migration permission checks are performed at write time as
whether a given operation is allowed or not is dependent on the content of
the write - the PID. This currently uses current's credentials which is a
potential security weakness as it may allow scenarios where a less

This patch makes both cgroup2 and cgroup1 process migration interfaces to
use the credentials saved at the time of open (file->f_cred) instead of
current's.

40b4ac82da cgroup/cpuset: Fix a race between cpuset_attach() and cpu hotplug
commit 05c7b7a92cc87ff8d7fde189d0fade250697573c upstream.

As previously discussed(https://lkml.org/lkml/2022/1/20/51),
cpuset_attach() is affected with similar cpu hotplug race,
as follow scenario:

     cpuset_attach()				cpu hotplug
    ---------------------------            ----------------------
    down_write(cpuset_rwsem)
    guarantee_online_cpus() // (load cpus_attach)
					sched_cpu_deactivate
					  set_cpu_active()
					  // will change cpu_active_mask
    set_cpus_allowed_ptr(cpus_attach)
      __set_cpus_allowed_ptr_locked()
       // (if the intersection of cpus_attach and
         cpu_active_mask is empty, will return -EINVAL)
    up_write(cpuset_rwsem)

To avoid races such as described above, protect cpuset_attach() call
with cpu_hotplug_lock.

commit 24f6008564183aa120d07c03d9289519c2fe02af upstream.

The cgroup release_agent is called with call_usermodehelper. The function
call_usermodehelper starts the release_agent with a full set fo capabilities.
Therefore require capabilities when setting the release_agaent.

It was caused by the fact that rebind_subsystem() disables
controllers to be rebound one by one. If more than one disabled
controllers are originally from the default hierarchy, it means that
cgroup_apply_control_disable() will be called multiple times for the
same default hierarchy. A controller may be killed by css_kill() in
the first round. In the second round, the killed controller may not be
completely dead yet leading to the warning.

To avoid this problem, we collect all the ssid's of controllers that
needed to be disabled from the default hierarchy and then disable them
in one go instead of one by one.

b98aadcdb4 BACKPORT: cgroup: make per-cgroup pressure stall tracking configurable
PSI accounts stalls for each cgroup separately and aggregates it at each
level of the hierarchy. This causes additional overhead with psi_avgs_work
being called for each cgroup in the hierarchy. psi_avgs_work has been
highly optimized, however on systems with large number of cgroups the
overhead becomes noticeable.
Systems which use PSI only at the system level could avoid this overhead
if PSI can be configured to skip per-cgroup stall accounting.
Add "cgroup_disable=pressure" kernel command-line option to allow
requesting system-wide only pressure stall accounting. When set, it
keeps system-wide accounting under /proc/pressure/ but skips accounting
for individual cgroups and does not expose PSI nodes in cgroup hierarchy.

d2625eba1e cgroup1: don't allow '\n' in renaming
commit b7e24eb1caa5f8da20d405d262dba67943aedc42 upstream.

cgroup_mkdir() have restriction on newline usage in names:
$ mkdir $'/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test\ntest2'
mkdir: cannot create directory
'/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test\ntest2': Invalid argument

But in cgroup1_rename() such check is missed.
This allows us to make /proc/<pid>/cgroup unparsable:
$ mkdir /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test
$ mv /sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test $'/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test\ntest2'
$ echo $$ > $'/sys/fs/cgroup/cpu/test\ntest2'

455c38eb8b cgroup: disable controllers at parse time
[ Upstream commit 45e1ba40837ac2f6f4d4716bddb8d44bd7e4a251 ]

This patch effectively reverts the commit a3e72739b7 ("cgroup: fix
too early usage of static_branch_disable()"). The commit 6041186a3258
("init: initialize jump labels before command line option parsing") has
moved the jump_label_init() before parse_args() which has made the
commit a3e72739b7 unnecessary. On the other hand there are
consequences of disabling the controllers later as there are subsystems
doing the controller checks for different decisions. One such incident
is reported [1] regarding the memory controller and its impact on memory
reclaim code.

487959a09c BACKPORT: cgroup: freezer: fix frozen state inheritance
If a new child cgroup is created in the frozen cgroup hierarchy
(one or more of ancestor cgroups is frozen), the CGRP_FREEZE cgroup
flag should be set. Otherwise if a process will be attached to the
child cgroup, it won't become frozen.

The problem can be reproduced with the test_cgfreezer_mkdir test.

This is the output before this patch:
  ~/test_freezer
  ok 1 test_cgfreezer_simple
  ok 2 test_cgfreezer_tree
  ok 3 test_cgfreezer_forkbomb
  Cgroup /sys/fs/cgroup/cg_test_mkdir_A/cg_test_mkdir_B isn't frozen
  not ok 4 test_cgfreezer_mkdir
  ok 5 test_cgfreezer_rmdir
  ok 6 test_cgfreezer_migrate
  ok 7 test_cgfreezer_ptrace
  ok 8 test_cgfreezer_stopped
  ok 9 test_cgfreezer_ptraced
  ok 10 test_cgfreezer_vfork

And with this patch:
  ~/test_freezer
  ok 1 test_cgfreezer_simple
  ok 2 test_cgfreezer_tree
  ok 3 test_cgfreezer_forkbomb
  ok 4 test_cgfreezer_mkdir
  ok 5 test_cgfreezer_rmdir
  ok 6 test_cgfreezer_migrate
  ok 7 test_cgfreezer_ptrace
  ok 8 test_cgfreezer_stopped
  ok 9 test_cgfreezer_ptraced
  ok 10 test_cgfreezer_vfork
