PM: hibernate: Fix mistake in kerneldoc comment
[ Upstream commit 6e5d7300cbe7c3541bc31f16db3e9266e6027b4b ]
The actual maximum image size formula in hibernate_preallocate_memory()
is as follows:
max_size = (count - (size + PAGES_FOR_IO)) / 2
- 2 * DIV_ROUND_UP(reserved_size, PAGE_SIZE);
but the one in the kerneldoc comment of the function is different and
incorrect.

PM: hibernate: Allow hybrid sleep to work with s2idle
[ Upstream commit 85850af4fc47132f3f2f0dd698b90f67906600b4 ]
Hybrid sleep is currently hardcoded to only operate with S3 even
on systems that might not support it.
Instead of assuming this mode is what the user wants to use, for
hybrid sleep follow the setting of `mem_sleep_current` which
will respect mem_sleep_default kernel command line and policy
decisions made by the presence of the FADT low power idle bit.

treewide: Use array_size() in vmalloc()
The vmalloc() function has no 2-factor argument form, so multiplication
factors need to be wrapped in array_size(). This patch replaces cases of:
vmalloc(a * b)
with:
vmalloc(array_size(a, b))
as well as handling cases of:
vmalloc(a * b * c)
with:
vmalloc(array3_size(a, b, c))
This does, however, attempt to ignore constant size factors like:
vmalloc(4 * 1024)
though any constants defined via macros get caught up in the conversion.
Any factors with a sizeof() of "unsigned char", "char", and "u8" were
dropped, since they're redundant.
The Coccinelle script used for this was:
// Fix redundant parens around sizeof().

PM: hibernate: defer device probing when resuming from hibernation
[ Upstream commit 8386c414e27caba8501119948e9551e52b527f59 ]
syzbot is reporting hung task at misc_open() [1], for there is a race
window of AB-BA deadlock which involves probe_count variable. Currently
wait_for_device_probe() from snapshot_open() from misc_open() can sleep
forever with misc_mtx held if probe_count cannot become 0.
When a device is probed by hub_event() work function, probe_count is
incremented before the probe function starts, and probe_count is
decremented after the probe function completed.
There are three cases that can prevent probe_count from dropping to 0.
(a) A device being probed stopped responding (i.e. broken/malicious
hardware).
(b) A process emulating a USB device using /dev/raw-gadget interface
stopped responding for some reason.
(c) New device probe requests keeps coming in before existing device
probe requests complete.
The phenomenon syzbot is reporting is (b). A process which is holding
system_transition_mutex and misc_mtx is waiting for probe_count to become
0 inside wait_for_device_probe(), but the probe function which is called
from hub_event() work function is waiting for the processes which are
blocked at mutex_lock(&misc_mtx) to respond via /dev/raw-gadget interface.
This patch mitigates (b) by deferring wait_for_device_probe() from
snapshot_open() to snapshot_write() and snapshot_ioctl(). Please note that
the possibility of (b) remains as long as any thread which is emulating a
USB device via /dev/raw-gadget interface can be blocked by uninterruptible
blocking operations (e.g. mutex_lock()).
Please also note that (a) and (c) are not addressed. Regarding (c), we
should change the code to wait for only one device which contains the
image for resuming from hibernation. I don't know how to address (a), for
use of timeout for wait_for_device_probe() might result in loss of user
data in the image. Maybe we should require the userland to wait for the
image device before opening /dev/snapshot interface.

PM / freezer: Abort suspend when there's a wakeup while freezing
Although try_to_freeze_tasks() stops when there's a wakeup, it doesn't return an error when it successfully freezes everything it wants to freeze. As a result, the suspend attempt can continue even after a wakeup is issued. Although the wakeup will be eventually caught later in the suspend process, kicking the can down the road is suboptimal; when there's a wakeup detected, suspend should be immediately aborted by returning an error instead. Make try_to_freeze_tasks() do just that, and also move the wakeup check above the `todo` check so that we don't miss a wakeup from a process that successfully froze. PM / suspend: Clear wakeups before running PM callbacks
PM callbacks can be used as an indicator that the system is suspending, and as such, a wakeup may be issued outside the notifier in order to cancel an ongoing suspend. Clearing wakeups after running the PM callbacks can thus cause wakeups to be missed. Fix it by simply clearing wakeups prior to running PM callbacks. PM / freezer: Reduce freeze timeout to 1 second for Android
Freezing processes on Android usually takes less than 100 ms, and if it takes longer than that to the point where the 20 second freeze timeout is reached, it's because the remaining processes to be frozen are deadlocked waiting for something from a process which is already frozen. There's no point in burning power trying to freeze for that long, so reduce the freeze timeout to a very generous 1 second for Android and don't let anything mess with it. irq: fix wakeup logging under new s2idle flow
The new s2idle code in the 4.14 kernel (relative to 4.9) upends a previously safe assumption that android wakeup logging relied upon: that a wakeup caused by a wake-capable interrupt would never also see a wakeup abort reason (i.e. related to a held wakesource that appears to have prevented suspend from succeeding) logged in the same resume flow. Specifically, where deep sleep flow in 4.9 and 4.14 as well as s2idle flow in 4.9 only checked for abort reasons prior to noirq resume of devices, 4.14's s2idle_loop always checks for abort reasons after noirq resume of devices, which virtually ensures that an abort reason will be logged for every wakeup. In addition, the new s2idle_loop flow will log abort messages in the kernel log - potentially even twice - despite no suspend abort having occurred. This change consists of two elements to address those issues (one directly, the other indirectly): * s2idle_loop() is modified to avoid redundant calls to pm_wakeup_pending(), and it is only invoked after device resume if no previous call has returned true * s2idle_loop is also modified to invoke clear_wakeup_reasons() whenever a partial wakeup results in looping around back into s2idle_enter, clearing android wakeup reason logging at the same point where the upstream kernel's builtin wakeup IRQ logging is also cleared. It's worth noting that there may not actually be a valid case in our architecture where the loop will, in fact, loop... even prior to this change. That being the case, the second changes (the clear_wakeup_reasons() call) may actually be superfluous. But this change attempts to preserve the overall spirit of the s2idle_loop() sequence as it exists from upstream, which is why the clear was added. PM: s2idle: Execute LPS0 _DSM functions with suspended devices
According to Section 3.5 of the "Intel Low Power S0 Idle" document [1], Function 5 of the LPS0 _DSM is expected to be invoked when the system configuration matches the criteria for entering the target low-power state of the platform. In particular, this means that all devices should be suspended and in low-power states already when that function is invoked. This is not the case currently, however, because Function 5 of the LPS0 _DSM is invoked by it before the "noirq" phase of device suspend, which means that some devices may not have been put into low-power states yet at that point. That is a consequence of the previous design of the suspend-to-idle flow that allowed the "noirq" phase of device suspend and the "noirq" phase of device resume to be carried out for multiple times while "suspended" (if any spurious wakeup events were detected) and the point of the LPS0 _DSM Function 5 invocation was chosen so as to call it (and LPS0 _DSM Function 6 analogously) once per suspend-resume cycle (regardless of how many times the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume were carried out while "suspended"). Now that the suspend-to-idle flow has been redesigned to carry out the "noirq" phases of device suspend and resume once in each cycle, the code can be reordered to follow the specification that it is based on more closely. For this purpose, add ->prepare_late and ->restore_early platform callbacks for suspend-to-idle, to be executed, respectively, after the "noirq" phase of suspending devices and before the "noirq" phase of resuming them and make ACPI use them for the invocation of LPS0 _DSM functions as appropriate. While at it, move the LPS0 entry requirements check to be made before invoking Functions 3 and 5 of the LPS0 _DSM (also once per cycle) as follows from the specification [1]. suspend: Prevent might sleep splats
timekeeping suspend/resume calls read_persistant_clock() which takes rtc_lock. That results in might sleep warnings because at that point we run with interrupts disabled. We cannot convert rtc_lock to a raw spinlock as that would trigger other might sleep warnings. As a temporary workaround we disable the might sleep warnings by setting system_state to SYSTEM_SUSPEND before calling sysdev_suspend() and restoring it to SYSTEM_RUNNING afer sysdev_resume(). Needs to be revisited. Signed-off-by: Thomas Gleixner <tglx@linutronix.de> |

PM: suspend: fix return value of __setup handler
[ Upstream commit 7a64ca17e4dd50d5f910769167f3553902777844 ]
If an invalid option is given for "test_suspend=<option>", the entire
string is added to init's environment, so return 1 instead of 0 from
the __setup handler.
Unknown kernel command line parameters "BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage-517rc5
test_suspend=invalid"
and
Run /sbin/init as init process
with arguments:
/sbin/init
with environment:
HOME=/
TERM=linux
BOOT_IMAGE=/boot/bzImage-517rc5
test_suspend=invalid

PM: hibernate: fix __setup handler error handling
[ Upstream commit ba7ffcd4c4da374b0f64666354eeeda7d3827131 ]
If an invalid value is used in "resumedelay=<seconds>", it is
silently ignored. Add a warning message and then let the __setup
handler return 1 to indicate that the kernel command line option
has been handled.

power/wakelock: Add a timeout to wakelocks globally
Few wakelocks tends to get stuck for no reason. Blocking them isn't necessary and sometimes blocking them breaks basic functionality. Wakelocks like "tx_swr_ctrl" tends to get stuck if we keep earphones connected and drops battery massively. Test: Keep earphones plugged in and leave device for few hours Expected result: No "tx_swr_ctrl" is being stuck. Actual result: Patch is working as expected. PM: wakeup: simplify the output logic of pm_show_wakelocks()
commit c9d967b2ce40d71e968eb839f36c936b8a9cf1ea upstream. The buffer handling in pm_show_wakelocks() is tricky, and hopefully correct. Ensure it really is correct by using sysfs_emit_at() which handles all of the tricky string handling logic in a PAGE_SIZE buffer for us automatically as this is a sysfs file being read from. PM: hibernate: use correct mode for swsusp_close()
[ Upstream commit cefcf24b4d351daf70ecd945324e200d3736821e ]
Commit 39fbef4b0f77 ("PM: hibernate: Get block device exclusively in
swsusp_check()") changed the opening mode of the block device to
(FMODE_READ | FMODE_EXCL).
In the corresponding calls to swsusp_close(), the mode is still just
FMODE_READ which triggers the warning in blkdev_flush_mapping() on
resume from hibernate.
So, use the mode (FMODE_READ | FMODE_EXCL) also when closing the
device.

PM: hibernate: fix sparse warnings
[ Upstream commit 01de5fcd8b1ac0ca28d2bb0921226a54fdd62684 ]
When building the kernel with sparse enabled 'C=1' the following
warnings shows up:
kernel/power/swap.c:390:29: warning: incorrect type in assignment (different base types)
kernel/power/swap.c:390:29: expected int ret
kernel/power/swap.c:390:29: got restricted blk_status_t
This is due to function hib_wait_io() returns a 'blk_status_t' which is
a bitwise u8. Commit 5416da01ff6e ("PM: hibernate: Remove
blk_status_to_errno in hib_wait_io") seemed to have mixed up the return
type. However, the

qos: Change cpus_affine to not be atomic
There isn't a need for cpus_affine to be atomic, and reading/writing to it outside of the global pm_qos lock is racy anyway. As such, we can simply turn it into a primitive integer type. Signed-off-by: Sultan Alsawaf <sultan@kerneltoast.com> |
