net: fix race between napi kthread mode and busy poll
Currently, napi_thread_wait() checks for NAPI_STATE_SCHED bit to
determine if the kthread owns this napi and could call napi->poll() on
it. However, if socket busy poll is enabled, it is possible that the
busy poll thread grabs this SCHED bit (after the previous napi->poll()
invokes napi_complete_done() and clears SCHED bit) and tries to poll
on the same napi. napi_disable() could grab the SCHED bit as well.
This patch tries to fix this race by adding a new bit
NAPI_STATE_SCHED_THREADED in napi->state. This bit gets set in
____napi_schedule() if the threaded mode is enabled, and gets cleared
in napi_complete_done(), and we only poll the napi in kthread if this
bit is set. This helps distinguish the ownership of the napi between
kthread and other scenarios and fixes the race issue.

net: add sysfs attribute to control napi threaded mode
This patch adds a new sysfs attribute to the network device class. Said attribute provides a per-device control to enable/disable the threaded mode for all the napi instances of the given network device, without the need for a device up/down. User sets it to 1 or 0 to enable or disable threaded mode. Note: when switching between threaded and the current softirq based mode for a napi instance, it will not immediately take effect if the napi is currently being polled. The mode switch will happen for the next time napi_schedule() is called. net: implement threaded-able napi poll loop support
This patch allows running each napi poll loop inside its own kernel thread. The kthread is created during netif_napi_add() if dev->threaded is set. And threaded mode is enabled in napi_enable(). We will provide a way to set dev->threaded and enable threaded mode without a device up/down in the following patch. Once that threaded mode is enabled and the kthread is started, napi_schedule() will wake-up such thread instead of scheduling the softirq. net: create netdev->dev_addr assignment helpers
[ Upstream commit 48eab831ae8b9f7002a533fa4235eed63ea1f1a3 ] Recent work on converting address list to a tree made it obvious we need an abstraction around writing netdev->dev_addr. Without such abstraction updating the main device address is invisible to the core. Introduce a number of helpers which for now just wrap memcpy() but in the future can make necessary changes to the address tree. ip: validate header length on virtual device xmit
[ Upstream commit cb9f1b783850b14cbd7f87d061d784a666dfba1f ]
KMSAN detected read beyond end of buffer in vti and sit devices when
passing truncated packets with PF_PACKET. The issue affects additional
ip tunnel devices.
Extend commit 76c0ddd8c3a6 ("ip6_tunnel: be careful when accessing the
inner header") and commit ccfec9e5cb2d ("ip_tunnel: be careful when
accessing the inner header").
Move the check to a separate helper and call at the start of each
ndo_start_xmit function in net/ipv4 and net/ipv6.
Minor changes:
- convert dev_kfree_skb to kfree_skb on error path,
as dev_kfree_skb calls consume_skb which is not for error paths.
- use pskb_network_may_pull even though that is pedantic here,
as the same as pskb_may_pull for devices without llheaders.
- do not cache ipv6 hdrs if used only once
(unsafe across pskb_may_pull, was more relevant to earlier patch)

BACKPORT: bpf: offload: add infrastructure for loading programs for a specific netdev
The fact that we don't know which device the program is going to be used on is quite limiting in current eBPF infrastructure. We have to reverse or limit the changes which kernel makes to the loaded bytecode if we want it to be offloaded to a networking device. We also have to invent new APIs for debugging and troubleshooting support. Make it possible to load programs for a specific netdev. This helps us to bring the debug information closer to the core eBPF infrastructure (e.g. we will be able to reuse the verifer log in device JIT). It allows device JITs to perform translation on the original bytecode. __bpf_prog_get() when called to get a reference for an attachment point will now refuse to give it if program has a device assigned. Following patches will add a version of that function which passes the expected netdev in. @type argument in __bpf_prog_get() is renamed to attach_type to make it clearer that it's only set on attachment. All calls to ndo_bpf are protected by rtnl, only verifier callbacks are not. We need a wait queue to make sure netdev doesn't get destroyed while verifier is still running and calling its driver. Remove DECnet support from kernel
commit 1202cdd665315c525b5237e96e0bedc76d7e754f upstream. DECnet is an obsolete network protocol that receives more attention from kernel janitors than users. It belongs in computer protocol history museum not in Linux kernel. It has been "Orphaned" in kernel since 2010. The iproute2 support for DECnet was dropped in 5.0 release. The documentation link on Sourceforge says it is abandoned there as well. Leave the UAPI alone to keep userspace programs compiling. This means that there is still an empty neighbour table for AF_DECNET. The table of /proc/sys/net entries was updated to match current directories and reformatted to be alphabetical. net: fix information leakage in /proc/net/ptype
commit 47934e06b65637c88a762d9c98329ae6e3238888 upstream.
In one net namespace, after creating a packet socket without binding
it to a device, users in other net namespaces can observe the new
`packet_type` added by this packet socket by reading `/proc/net/ptype`
file. This is minor information leakage as packet socket is
namespace aware.
Add a net pointer in `packet_type` to keep the net namespace of
of corresponding packet socket. In `ptype_seq_show`, this net pointer
must be checked when it is not NULL.

net: Introduce parse_protocol header_ops callback
commit e78b2915517e8fcadb1bc130ad6aeac7099e510c upstream. Introduce a new optional header_ops callback called parse_protocol and a wrapper function dev_parse_header_protocol, similar to dev_parse_header. The new callback's purpose is to extract the protocol number from the L2 header, the format of which is known to the driver, but not to the upper layers of the stack. net: watchdog: hold device global xmit lock during tx disable
commit 3aa6bce9af0e25b735c9c1263739a5639a336ae8 upstream.
Prevent netif_tx_disable() running concurrently with dev_watchdog() by
taking the device global xmit lock. Otherwise, the recommended:
netif_carrier_off(dev);
netif_tx_disable(dev);
driver shutdown sequence can happen after the watchdog has already
checked carrier, resulting in possible false alarms. This is because
netif_tx_lock() only sets the frozen bit without maintaining the locks
on the individual queues.

net: core: reduce recursion limit value
[ Upstream commit fb7861d14c8d7edac65b2fcb6e8031cb138457b2 ]
In the current code, ->ndo_start_xmit() can be executed recursively only
10 times because of stack memory.
But, in the case of the vxlan, 10 recursion limit value results in
a stack overflow.
In the current code, the nested interface is limited by 8 depth.
There is no critical reason that the recursion limitation value should
be 10.
So, it would be good to be the same value with the limitation value of
nesting interface depth.
Test commands:
ip link add vxlan10 type vxlan vni 10 dstport 4789 srcport 4789 4789
ip link set vxlan10 up
ip a a 192.168.10.1/24 dev vxlan10

net: rtnetlink: validate IFLA_MTU attribute in rtnl_create_link()
[ Upstream commit d836f5c69d87473ff65c06a6123e5b2cf5e56f5b ]
rtnl_create_link() needs to apply dev->min_mtu and dev->max_mtu
checks that we apply in do_setlink()
Otherwise malicious users can crash the kernel, for example after
an integer overflow :

inet: protect against too small mtu values.
[ Upstream commit 501a90c945103e8627406763dac418f20f3837b2 ]
syzbot was once again able to crash a host by setting a very small mtu
on loopback device.
Let's make inetdev_valid_mtu() available in include/net/ip.h,
and use it in ip_setup_cork(), so that we protect both ip_append_page()
and __ip_append_data()
Also add a READ_ONCE() when the device mtu is read.
Pairs this lockless read with one WRITE_ONCE() in __dev_set_mtu(),
even if other code paths might write over this field.
Add a big comment in include/linux/netdevice.h about dev->mtu
needing READ_ONCE()/WRITE_ONCE() annotations.
Hopefully we will add the missing ones in followup patches.

ipvlan, l3mdev: fix broken l3s mode wrt local routes
[ Upstream commit d5256083f62e2720f75bb3c5a928a0afe47d6bc3 ] While implementing ipvlan l3 and l3s mode for kubernetes CNI plugin, I ran into the issue that while l3 mode is working fine, l3s mode does not have any connectivity to kube-apiserver and hence all pods end up in Error state as well. The ipvlan master device sits on top of a bond device and hostns traffic to kube-apiserver (also running in hostns) is DNATed from 10.152.183.1:443 to 139.178.29.207:37573 where the latter is the address of the bond0. While in l3 mode, a curl to https://10.152.183.1:443 or to https://139.178.29.207:37573 works fine from hostns, neither of them do in case of l3s. In the latter only a curl to https://127.0.0.1:37573 appeared to work where for local addresses of bond0 I saw kernel suddenly starting to emit ARP requests to query HW address of bond0 which remained unanswered and neighbor entries in INCOMPLETE state. These ARP requests only happen while in l3s. Debugging this further, I found the issue is that l3s mode is piggy- backing on l3 master device, and in this case local routes are using l3mdev_master_dev_rcu(dev) instead of net->loopback_dev as per commit |

net: fix use-after-free in GRO with ESP
[ Upstream commit 603d4cf8fe095b1ee78f423d514427be507fb513 ] Since the addition of GRO for ESP, gro_receive can consume the skb and return -EINPROGRESS. In that case, the lower layer GRO handler cannot touch the skb anymore. Commit |

net: add a per-cpu counter for the number of frames coalesced in GRO
A low cost method of determining GRO statistics is required. This change introduces a new counter which tracks whenever GRO coalesces ingress packets. The counter is per-CPU and exposed in /proc/net/softnet_stat as the last column of data. No user space impact is expected as a result of this change. However, this change should be reverted if legacy tools have problems with the new column in softnet_stat. net: accept UFO datagrams from tuntap and packet
[ Upstream commit 0c19f846d582af919db66a5914a0189f9f92c936 ] Tuntap and similar devices can inject GSO packets. Accept type VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP, even though not generating UFO natively. Processes are expected to use feature negotiation such as TUNSETOFFLOAD to detect supported offload types and refrain from injecting other packets. This process breaks down with live migration: guest kernels do not renegotiate flags, so destination hosts need to expose all features that the source host does. Partially revert the UFO removal from 182e0b6b5846~1..d9d30adf5677. This patch introduces nearly(*) no new code to simplify verification. It brings back verbatim tuntap UFO negotiation, VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP insertion and software UFO segmentation. It does not reinstate protocol stack support, hardware offload (NETIF_F_UFO), SKB_GSO_UDP tunneling in SKB_GSO_SOFTWARE or reception of VIRTIO_NET_HDR_GSO_UDP packets in tuntap. To support SKB_GSO_UDP reappearing in the stack, also reinstate logic in act_csum and openvswitch. Achieve equivalence with v4.13 HEAD by squashing in commit |

net: Add the get current NAPI context API
Commit 69235aa80090 ("net: Remove the get current NAPI context API")
removed the definition of get_current_napi_context() as rmnet_data
was no longer using it. However, the rmnet_data change to use its
NAPI in multiple contexts was prone to race in hotplug scenarios.
Add back get_current_napi_context() and current_napi to the
softnet_data struct.

tun: call dev_get_valid_name() before register_netdevice()
register_netdevice() could fail early when we have an invalid
dev name, in which case ->ndo_uninit() is not called. For tun
device, this is a problem because a timer etc. are already
initialized and it expects ->ndo_uninit() to clean them up.
We could move these initializations into a ->ndo_init() so
that register_netdevice() knows better, however this is still
complicated due to the logic in tun_detach().
Therefore, I choose to just call dev_get_valid_name() before
register_netdevice(), which is quicker and much easier to audit.
And for this specific case, it is already enough.
