timekeeping: Fix cross-timestamp interpolation for non-x86

So far, get_device_system_crosststamp() unconditionally passes
system_counterval.cycles to timekeeping_cycles_to_ns(). But when
interpolating system time (do_interp == true), system_counterval.cycles is
before tkr_mono.cycle_last, contrary to the timekeeping_cycles_to_ns()
expectations.
On x86, CONFIG_CLOCKSOURCE_VALIDATE_LAST_CYCLE will mitigate on
interpolating, setting delta to 0. With delta == 0, xtstamp->sys_monoraw
and xtstamp->sys_realtime are then set to the last update time, as
implicitly expected by adjust_historical_crosststamp(). On other
architectures, the resulting nonsense xtstamp->sys_monoraw and
xtstamp->sys_realtime corrupt the xtstamp (ts) adjustment in
adjust_historical_crosststamp().
Fix this by deriving xtstamp->sys_monoraw and xtstamp->sys_realtime from
the last update time when interpolating, by using the local variable
"cycles". The local variable already has the right value when
interpolating, unlike system_counterval.cycles.

The cycle_between() helper checks if parameter test is in the open interval
(before, after). Colloquially speaking, this also applies to the counter
wrap-around special case before > after. get_device_system_crosststamp()
currently uses cycle_between() at the first call site to decide whether to
interpolate for older counter readings.
get_device_system_crosststamp() has the following problem with
cycle_between() testing against an open interval: Assume that, by chance,
cycles == tk->tkr_mono.cycle_last (in the following, "cycle_last" for
brevity). Then, cycle_between() at the first call site, with effective
argument values cycle_between(cycle_last, cycles, now), returns false,
enabling interpolation. During interpolation,
get_device_system_crosststamp() will then call cycle_between() at the
second call site (if a history_begin was supplied). The effective argument
values are cycle_between(history_begin->cycles, cycles, cycles), since
system_counterval.cycles == interval_start == cycles, per the assumption.
Due to the test against the open interval, cycle_between() returns false
again. This causes get_device_system_crosststamp() to return -EINVAL.
This failure should be avoided, since get_device_system_crosststamp() works
both when cycles follows cycle_last (no interpolation), and when cycles
precedes cycle_last (interpolation). For the case cycles == cycle_last,
interpolation is actually unneeded.
Fix this by changing cycle_between() into timestamp_in_interval(), which
now checks against the closed interval, rather than the open interval.
This changes the get_device_system_crosststamp() behavior for three corner
cases:
1. Bypass interpolation in the case cycles == tk->tkr_mono.cycle_last,
fixing the problem described above.
2. At the first timestamp_in_interval() call site, cycles == now no longer
causes failure.
3. At the second timestamp_in_interval() call site, history_begin->cycles
== system_counterval.cycles no longer causes failure.
adjust_historical_crosststamp() also works for this corner case,
where partial_history_cycles == total_history_cycles.
These behavioral changes should not cause any problems.

tick/sched: Preserve number of idle sleeps across CPU hotplug events

Commit 71fee48f ("tick-sched: Fix idle and iowait sleeptime accounting vs
CPU hotplug") preserved total idle sleep time and iowait sleeptime across
CPU hotplug events.
Similar reasoning applies to the number of idle calls and idle sleeps to
get the proper average of sleep time per idle invocation.
Preserve those fields too.

See tick_cancel_sched_timer() in kernel/time/tick-sched.c. Therefore when a CPU is brought offline and online afterwards both its idle and iowait sleeptime will be zero, causing a jump backward in total system idle and iowait sleeptime. posix-timers: Ensure timer ID search-loop limit is valid

posix_timer_add() tries to allocate a posix timer ID by starting from the
cached ID which was stored by the last successful allocation.
This is done in a loop searching the ID space for a free slot one by
one. The loop has to terminate when the search wrapped around to the
starting point.
But that's racy vs. establishing the starting point. That is read out
lockless, which leads to the following problem:

if (++sig->posix_timer_id < 0)
start = sig->posix_timer_id;
sig->posix_timer_id = 0;
So CPU1 can observe a negative start value, i.e. -1, and the loop break
never happens because the condition can never be true:
if (sig->posix_timer_id == start)
break;
While this is unlikely to ever turn into an endless loop as the ID space is
huge (INT_MAX), the racy read of the start value caught the attention of
KCSAN and Dmitry unearthed that incorrectness.
Rewrite it so that all id operations are under the hash lock.

alarmtimer: Minimize wakeup time
Alarmtimer sets its wakeup timeout to 2s no matter the actual time to nearest timer expiration. This can cause device to be awake for more than needed. To fix this set wakeup timeout to min + 1 ms for safety margin. Tests revealed that average timer expiration is 1150ms in the future which suggests there is a room avilable to minimize wakeup times. Before this change device would enter sleep not earlier than 2s after alarmtimer suspend error (-EBUSY). With this change average suspend after alarmtimer suspend error time went down to 1.5s with a minimum of 0.248ms (after filtering results higher than 2.6s). timers: Prevent union confusion from unexpected restart_syscall()
[ Upstream commit 9f76d59173d9d146e96c66886b671c1915a5c5e5 ] The nanosleep syscalls use the restart_block mechanism, with a quirk: The `type` and `rmtp`/`compat_rmtp` fields are set up unconditionally on syscall entry, while the rest of the restart_block is only set up in the unlikely case that the syscall is actually interrupted by a signal (or pseudo-signal) that doesn't have a signal handler. If the restart_block was set up by a previous syscall (futex(..., FUTEX_WAIT, ...) or poll()) and hasn't been invalidated somehow since then, this will clobber some of the union fields used by futex_wait_restart() and do_restart_poll(). If userspace afterwards wrongly calls the restart_syscall syscall, futex_wait_restart()/do_restart_poll() will read struct fields that have been clobbered. This doesn't actually lead to anything particularly interesting because none of the union fields contain trusted kernel data, and futex(..., FUTEX_WAIT, ...) and poll() aren't syscalls where it makes much sense to apply seccomp filters to their arguments. So the current consequences are just of the "if userspace does bad stuff, it can damage itself, and that's not a problem" flavor. But still, it seems like a hazard for future developers, so invalidate the restart_block when partly setting it up in the nanosleep syscalls. alarmtimer: Prevent starvation by small intervals and SIG_IGN
commit d125d1349abeb46945dc5e98f7824bf688266f13 upstream. syzbot reported a RCU stall which is caused by setting up an alarmtimer with a very small interval and ignoring the signal. The reproducer arms the alarm timer with a relative expiry of 8ns and an interval of 9ns. Not a problem per se, but that's an issue when the signal is ignored because then the timer is immediately rearmed because there is no way to delay that rearming to the signal delivery path. alarmtimer: Make alarmtimer platform device child of RTC device
The alarmtimer_suspend() function will fail if an RTC device is on a bus such as SPI or i2c and that RTC device registers and probes after alarmtimer_init() registers and probes the 'alarmtimer' platform device. This is because system wide suspend suspends devices in the reverse order of their probe. When alarmtimer_suspend() attempts to program the RTC for a wakeup it will try to program an RTC device on a bus that has already been suspended. Move the alarmtimer device registration to happen when the RTC which is used for wakeup is registered. Register the 'alarmtimer' platform device as a child of the RTC device too, so that it can be guaranteed that the RTC device won't be suspended when alarmtimer_suspend() is called. timekeeping: Add raw clock fallback for random_get_entropy()
commit 1366992e16bddd5e2d9a561687f367f9f802e2e4 upstream. The addition of random_get_entropy_fallback() provides access to whichever time source has the highest frequency, which is useful for gathering entropy on platforms without available cycle counters. It's not necessarily as good as being able to quickly access a cycle counter that the CPU has, but it's still something, even when it falls back to being jiffies-based. In the event that a given arch does not define get_cycles(), falling back to the get_cycles() default implementation that returns 0 is really not the best we can do. Instead, at least calling random_get_entropy_fallback() would be preferable, because that always needs to return _something_, even falling back to jiffies eventually. It's not as though random_get_entropy_fallback() is super high precision or guaranteed to be entropic, but basically anything that's not zero all the time is better than returning zero all the time. Finally, since random_get_entropy_fallback() is used during extremely early boot when randomizing freelists in mm_init(), it can be called before timekeeping has been initialized. posix-timers: Preserve return value in clock_adjtime32()

The return value on success (>= 0) is overwritten by the return value of
put_old_timex32(). That works correct in the fault case, but is wrong for
the success case where put_old_timex32() returns 0.

random32: make prandom_u32() output unpredictable

Non-cryptographic PRNGs may have great statistical properties, but
are usually trivially predictable to someone who knows the algorithm,
given a small sample of their output. An LFSR like prandom_u32() is
particularly simple, even if the sample is widely scattered bits.
It turns out the network stack uses prandom_u32() for some things like
random port numbers which it would prefer are *not* trivially predictable.
Predictability led to a practical DNS spoofing attack. Oops.
This patch replaces the LFSR with a homebrew cryptographic PRNG based
on the SipHash round function, which is in turn seeded with 128 bits
of strong random key. (The authors of SipHash have *not* been consulted
about this abuse of their algorithm.) Speed is prioritized over security;
attacks are rare, while performance is always wanted.
Replacing all callers of prandom_u32() is the quick fix.
Whether to reinstate a weaker PRNG for uses which can tolerate it
is an open question.
Commit f227e3ec3b5c ("random32: update the net random state on interrupt
and activity") was an earlier attempt at a solution. This patch replaces
it.

random32: update the net random state on interrupt and activity
commit f227e3ec3b5cad859ad15666874405e8c1bbc1d4 upstream. This modifies the first 32 bits out of the 128 bits of a random CPU's net_rand_state on interrupt or CPU activity to complicate remote observations that could lead to guessing the network RNG's internal state. Note that depending on some network devices' interrupt rate moderation or binding, this re-seeding might happen on every packet or even almost never. In addition, with NOHZ some CPUs might not even get timer interrupts, leaving their local state rarely updated, while they are running networked processes making use of the random state. For this reason, we also perform this update in update_process_times() in order to at least update the state when there is user or system activity, since it's the only case we care about. timer: Fix wheel index calculation on last level
commit e2a71bdea81690b6ef11f4368261ec6f5b6891aa upstream.
When an expiration delta falls into the last level of the wheel, that delta
has be compared against the maximum possible delay and reduced to fit in if
necessary.
However instead of comparing the delta against the maximum, the code
compares the actual expiry against the maximum. Then instead of fixing the
delta to fit in, it sets the maximum delta as the expiry value.
This can result in various undesired outcomes, the worst possible one
being a timer expiring 15 days ahead to fire immediately.

alarmtimer: Unregister wakeup source when module get fails
commit 6b6d188aae79a630957aefd88ff5c42af6553ee3 upstream.
The alarmtimer_rtc_add_device() function creates a wakeup source and then
tries to grab a module reference. If that fails the function returns early
with an error code, but fails to remove the wakeup source.
Cleanup this exit path so there is no dangling wakeup source, which is
named 'alarmtime' left allocated which will conflict with another RTC
device that may be registered later.

ptp: fix the race between the release of ptp_clock and cdev

In a case when a ptp chardev (like /dev/ptp0) is open but an underlying
device is removed, closing this file leads to a race. This reproduces

Here cdev is embedded in posix_clock which is embedded in ptp_clock.
The race happens because ptp_clock's lifetime is controlled by two
refcounts: kref and cdev.kobj in posix_clock. This is wrong.
Make ptp_clock's sysfs device a parent of cdev with cdev_device_add()
created especially for such cases. This way the parent device with its
ptp_clock is not released until all references to the cdev are released.
This adds a requirement that an initialized but not exposed struct
device should be provided to posix_clock_register() by a caller instead
of a simple dev_t.
This approach was adopted from the commit 72139dfa2464 ("watchdog: Fix
the race between the release of watchdog_core_data and cdev"). See

hrtimer: Annotate lockless access to timer->state
commit 56144737e67329c9aaed15f942d46a6302e2e3d8 upstream. syzbot reported various data-race caused by hrtimer_is_queued() reading timer->state. A READ_ONCE() is required there to silence the warning. Also add the corresponding WRITE_ONCE() when timer->state is set. In remove_hrtimer() the hrtimer_is_queued() helper is open coded to avoid loading timer->state twice.
