7689427e23 xtensa: iss: fix handling error cases in iss_net_configure()
[ Upstream commit 628ccfc8f5f79dd548319408fcc53949fe97b258 ]

The 'pdev' and 'netdev' need to be released in error cases of
iss_net_configure().

Change the return type of iss_net_configure() to void, because it's
not used.

[ Upstream commit 8864fb8359682912ee99235db7db916733a1fd7b ]

Provide release() callback for the platform device embedded into struct
iss_net_private and registered in the iss_net_configure so that
platform_device_unregister could be called for it.

0162451723 xtensa: xtfpga: Fix refcount leak bug in setup
commit 173940b3ae40114d4179c251a98ee039dc9cd5b3 upstream.

4b02493838 xtensa/simdisk: fix proc_read_simdisk()
commit b011946d039d66bbc7102137e98cc67e1356aa87 upstream.

The commit a69755b187 ("xtensa simdisk: switch to proc_create_data()")
split read operation into two parts, first retrieving the path when it's
non-null and second retrieving the trailing '\n'. However when the path
is non-null the first simple_read_from_buffer updates ppos, and the
second simple_read_from_buffer returns 0 if ppos is greater than 1 (i.e.
almost always). As a result reading from that proc file is almost always
empty.

Fix it by making a temporary copy of the path with the trailing '\n' and
using simple_read_from_buffer on that copy.

50f79a2abb arch: xtensa: platforms: Fix deadlock in rs_close()
[ Upstream commit eb5adc70754d26a260f8b42d39db42da0d0af500 ]

There is a deadlock in rs_close(), which is shown
below:

   (Thread 1)              |      (Thread 2)
                           | rs_open()
rs_close()                 |  mod_timer()
 spin_lock_bh() //(1)      |  (wait a time)
 ...                       | rs_poll()
 del_timer_sync()          |  spin_lock() //(2)
 (wait timer to stop) | ...

We hold timer_lock in position (1) of thread 1 and
use del_timer_sync() to wait timer to stop, but timer handler
also need timer_lock in position (2) of thread 2.
As a result, rs_close() will block forever.

This patch deletes the redundant timer_lock in order to
prevent the deadlock. Because there is no race condition
between rs_close, rs_open and rs_poll.

012e974501 xtensa: xtfpga: Try software restart before simulating CPU reset
Rebooting xtensa images loaded with the '-kernel' option in qemu does
not work. When executing a reboot command, the qemu session either hangs
or experiences an endless sequence of error messages.

  Kernel panic - not syncing: Unrecoverable error in exception handler

Reset code jumps to the CPU restart address, but Linux can not recover
from there because code and data in the kernel init sections have been
discarded and overwritten at this point.

XTFPGA platforms have a means to reset the CPU by writing 0xdead into a
specific FPGA IO address. When used in QEMU the kernel image loaded with
the '-kernel' option gets restored to its original state allowing the
machine to boot successfully.

Use that mechanism to attempt a platform reset. If it does not work,
fall back to the existing mechanism.

39b7b42be4 tty: stop using alloc_tty_driver
alloc_tty_driver was deprecated by tty_alloc_driver in commit
7f0bc6a68e (TTY: pass flags to alloc_tty_driver) in 2012.

I never got into eliminating alloc_tty_driver until now. So we still
have two functions for allocating drivers which might be confusing. So
get rid of alloc_tty_driver uses to eliminate it for good in the next
patch.

Note we need to switch return value checking as tty_alloc_driver uses
ERR_PTR. And flags are now a parameter of tty_alloc_driver.

0524513afe tty: don't store semi-state into tty drivers
When a tty driver pointer is used as a return value of struct
console's device() hook, don't store a semi-state into global variable
which holds the tty driver. It could mean console::device() would return
a bogus value. This is important esp. after the next patch where we
switch from alloc_tty_driver to tty_alloc_driver. tty_alloc_driver
returns ERR_PTR in case of error and that might have unexpected results
as the code doesn't expect this.

23411c7200 xtensa: ISS: don't panic in rs_init
While alloc_tty_driver failure in rs_init would mean we have much bigger
problem, there is no reason to panic when tty_register_driver fails
there. It can fail for various reasons.

So handle the failure gracefully. Actually handle them both while at it.
This will make at least the console functional as it was enabled earlier
by console_initcall in iss_console_init. Instead of shooting down the
whole system.

We move tty_port_init() after alloc_tty_driver(), so that we don't need
to destroy the port in case the latter function fails.

f39650de68 kernel.h: split out panic and oops helpers
kernel.h is being used as a dump for all kinds of stuff for a long time.
Here is the attempt to start cleaning it up by splitting out panic and
oops helpers.

There are several purposes of doing this:
- dropping dependency in bug.h
- dropping a loop by moving out panic_notifier.h
- unload kernel.h from something which has its own domain

At the same time convert users tree-wide to use new headers, although for
the time being include new header back to kernel.h to avoid twisted
indirected includes for existing users.

6a8eb99e13 xtensa: ISS: add GDBIO implementation to semihosting interface
Add GDBIO implementation for the xtensa semihosting interface. It offers
less functions than the simcall interface, so make some semihosting
functions optional and return error when implementation is not
available.
Add Kconfig menu to select semihosting implementation and add simcall and
GDBIO choices there.

6c2e6317c9 tty: do not check tty_unregister_driver's return value
These drivers check tty_unregister_driver return value. But they don't
handle a failure correctly (they free the driver in any case). So stop
checking tty_unregister_driver return value and remove also the prints.

In the next patch, tty_unregister_driver's return type will be switched
to void.

309dca309f block: store a block_device pointer in struct bio
Replace the gendisk pointer in struct bio with a pointer to the newly
improved struct block device. From that the gendisk can be trivially
accessed with an extra indirection, but it also allows to directly
look up all information related to partition remapping.

c62b37d96b block: move ->make_request_fn to struct block_device_operations
The make_request_fn is a little weird in that it sits directly in
struct request_queue instead of an operation vector. Replace it with
a block_device_operations method called submit_bio (which describes much
better what it does). Also remove the request_queue argument to it, as
the queue can be derived pretty trivially from the bio.

3d745ea5b0 block: simplify queue allocation
Current make_request based drivers use either blk_alloc_queue_node or
blk_alloc_queue to allocate a queue, and then set up the make_request_fn
function pointer and a few parameters using the blk_queue_make_request
helper. Simplify this by passing the make_request pointer to
blk_alloc_queue, and while at it merge the _node variant into the main
helper by always passing a node_id, and remove the superfluous gfp_mask
parameter. A lower-level __blk_alloc_queue is kept for the blk-mq case.

22b17db4ea Merge tag 'y2038-drivers-for-v5.6-signed' of git://git.kernel.org:/pub/scm/linux/kernel/git/arnd/playground
Pull y2038 updates from Arnd Bergmann:
 "Core, driver and file system changes

  These are updates to device drivers and file systems that for some
  reason or another were not included in the kernel in the previous
  y2038 series.

  I've gone through all users of time_t again to make sure the kernel is
  in a long-term maintainable state, replacing all remaining references
  to time_t with safe alternatives.

  Some related parts of the series were picked up into the nfsd, xfs,
  alsa and v4l2 trees. A final set of patches in linux-mm removes the
  now unused time_t/timeval/timespec types and helper functions after
  all five branches are merged for linux-5.6, ensuring that no new users
  get merged.

  As a result, linux-5.6, or my backport of the patches to 5.4 [1],
  should be the first release that can serve as a base for a 32-bit
  system designed to run beyond year 2038, with a few remaining caveats:

   - All user space must be compiled with a 64-bit time_t, which will be
     supported in the coming musl-1.2 and glibc-2.32 releases, along
     with installed kernel headers from linux-5.6 or higher.

   - Applications that use the system call interfaces directly need to
     be ported to use the time64 syscalls added in linux-5.1 in place of
     the existing system calls. This impacts most users of futex() and
     seccomp() as well as programming languages that have their own
     runtime environment not based on libc.

   - Applications that use a private copy of kernel uapi header files or
     their contents may need to update to the linux-5.6 version, in
     particular for sound/asound.h, xfs/xfs_fs.h, linux/input.h,
     linux/elfcore.h, linux/sockios.h, linux/timex.h and
     linux/can/bcm.h.

   - A few remaining interfaces cannot be changed to pass a 64-bit
     time_t in a compatible way, so they must be configured to use
     CLOCK_MONOTONIC times or (with a y2106 problem) unsigned 32-bit
     timestamps. Most importantly this impacts all users of 'struct
     input_event'.

   - All y2038 problems that are present on 64-bit machines also apply
     to 32-bit machines. In particular this affects file systems with
     on-disk timestamps using signed 32-bit seconds: ext4 with
     ext3-style small inodes, ext2, xfs (to be fixed soon) and ufs"

then manually changing the few places which actually
